Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN)

Insights on getting started on ESG investing in Asia

Introduction

Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) is a unique funders’ network based in Singapore, committed to building a vibrant and high-impact social investment ecosystem across Asia. Since 2011, AVPN has been working to increase the flow of financial, human, and intellectual capital into nonprofits and social enterprises in Asia, from philanthropy to impact investments that address key social challenges. Against the backdrop of an evolving investment landscape, AVPN observed an increase in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing practices by family offices, wealth management functions in banks, and private equity firms.

Thank you, Oliver Wyman, for the dedication and very high level of professionalism that your team has shown as part of this ESG investing report

Scope

In addition to expanding the knowledge base in the increasingly popular field of ESG investing, AVPN wanted to create a documented “guidebook” to inform investors in Asia about channeling capital to promote the social and environmental good while maintaining financial performance. Engaged as a social impact partner, Oliver Wyman, together with APRC, collaborated with AVPN to research and co-author an original paper that illustrates the current ESG investing landscape in Asia.

Integrating ESG into investment decisions will drive long-term value creation and encourage sustainable business practices across Asia; this study has raised awareness and interests among investor groups to rethink how channeling capital to improve social and environmental wellbeing can be achieved alongside the desired financial performance
