Financing Resilience: The Commercial Upside Of Climate Adaptation

Research indicates that every dollar invested in climate adaptation can yield several dollars in returns or avoided losses. Despite this compelling financial incentive, adaptation efforts have not yet scaled effectively. Overcoming the barriers to scaling will enable financial institutions to unlock large-scale financing for a range of solutions, including retrofits, infrastructure improvements, and innovative design strategies, thereby presenting a significant income opportunity.

This session will explore the scale of the opportunity and potential revenue streams for financial institutions, examine the barriers that have limited growth in adaptation finance, and highlight innovative financing models that are breaking through these challenges, along with the leading public and private players driving change.

Moderator: Alban Pyanet, partner, Oliver Wyman

Speakers: Gianluca Cantalupi, risk executive for climate, nature, and social risk, JP Morgan; Tim Judge, SVP, head of modeling, Fannie Mae; Eric Duchon, Managing Director and Global Head of Sustainability, Blackstone Real Estate
