Every child deserves to be safe, healthy, educated, and heard but millions of kids around the world don’t have access to these basic rights. Girls, especially, face the greatest obstacles — and empowering girls is one of the most effective ways to change societies for the better.
The Global Girls Foundation (GGF) is shaking up the fight for gender equality in innovative ways. Launched by Plan International — a global non-governmental organization (NGO) focused on children’s rights and equality for girls — GGF is an independent philanthropic organization that partners with global thought leaders and leading philanthropists to drive real change. This unique fundraising model creates a lasting endowment for gender equality while also addressing today’s most urgent crises, such as gender-based violence, lack of education equity, and economic disparity. GGF empowers girls through education, innovation, and technology, helping them overcome social and economic challenges and create a brighter future.
The Oliver Wyman team did an excellent job facilitating the workshop and sparking engaging discussion with the board. Their insights were valuable and greatly contributed to advancing the foundation’s value proposition and positioningLea Bachmann, Managing Director & Co-Head, Global Girls Foundation
Our team in London recently had the privilege of supporting GGF in refining and articulating their strategy and value proposition. We began by conducting a benchmarking analysis, comparing GGF with peer organizations to better understand the competitive landscape. We also gathered insights from Plan International’s leadership, as well as private and family foundations, through targeted interviews. These perspectives were essential in tailoring GGF’s offering to meet market needs and expectations.
In addition to this strategic analysis, we developed a comprehensive financial model to evaluate the benefits of an endowment versus traditional donation-based giving. This helped the GGF team to visualize different financial scenarios and build a robust long-term projection for the fund.
Working on a social impact project focused on improving gender equality and supporting women and children globally was an incredibly rewarding experience. It gave me valuable insights into how a global NGO operatesKatrina Silina, Consultant, Oliver Wyman
To bring these insights together, we facilitated a hands-on workshop with the GGF board of trustees in Zurich. This in-person session allowed us to present our findings and foster meaningful discussions around GGF’s future strategy. The workshop was a turning point in helping the foundation understand where their fundraising efforts should focus and how they can innovate in their approach to securing sustainable, impactful funding. With a clearer path ahead, GGF is now better positioned to drive global gender equality and support girls’ futures worldwide.
