Overview
WeAreTechWomen is a unique conference supporting women in technology. Oliver Wyman has supported the event since its inception, and in 2019 are proud to continue as Gold Sponsors.
This year we will be considering the good and the bad of big data, particularly when it comes to using it in a responsible, ethical way.
In the UK, our data and privacy should be protected by the GDPR, but recent media headlines from around the world suggest that legislation alone may not be enough to stop our personal data from being stored, processed, and used in ways we would not knowingly consent to.
Against this backdrop, Deborah O’Neill, our UK Head of Digital, will present a keynote on what needs to be done by governments, corporates, and the public to prevent big data anarchy in the UK.
In addition, Kaijia Gu, a Partner and role model, will be joining a panel to discuss “How to accelerate your career” alongside other senior tech leaders.
Further information about the conference, including full agenda and ticket information, can be found here.

Preventing Big Data Anarchy in the UK
Big data has made big, positive changes to both businesses and society, but the line between ethical and unethical data usage continues to be crossed. In the UK, our data and privacy should be protected by the GDPR, but recent media headlines from around the world suggest that legislation alone may not be enough to stop our personal data from being stored, processed, and used in ways we would not knowingly consent to. Against this backdrop, we’ll look at what needs to be done by governments, corporates, and the public to prevent big data anarchy in the UK.
