Imke Wouters on Lagging Recovery of Chinese Outbound Travel

A recent Oliver Wyman report estimated China’s international travel to fully recover until late 2025, slower than prior expectations.

Imke Wouters, partner of Retail & Consumer Goods at Oliver Wyman, spoke with Reuters, attributing the unexpected recovery to the growing cost consciousness among Chinese consumers.

She also discussed visas and other inconvenience as obstacles for Chinese travelers going abroad. In her survey results, 40% of Chinese outbound travelers in 2023 refused international travel this year.
