New York, February 7, 2022 – Global management consultancy, Oliver Wyman, today announced that former FinCEN Acting Director, Michael Mosier, has joined as a Senior Advisor to its Anti-Financial Crime and Digital Assets practices.

“It is a privilege to have Michael join us as a Global Senior Advisor to Oliver Wyman,” said Ted Moynihan, Partner and Global Head of Industries at Oliver Wyman.  “Michael’s professional experience at the nexus of financial crime, regulatory compliance, cyber risk, blockchain and emerging digital technologies is invaluable and will help support the continued expansion of our leading capabilities in the strategic, digital and operational challenges our clients face.”

“Like public service at its best, what stood out about Oliver Wyman is their deeply technical, nuanced, and positive-sum approach to risk and opportunity. This pragmatic acuity is critical to realizing the expansive potential of current technological, economic, and social innovation, including as they engage with and advise governments around the world,” said Michael Mosier.

Michael Mosier recently served as Acting Director (and permanent Deputy Director/Digital Innovation Officer) of the U.S. Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN)—the Financial Intelligence Unit and primary anti-money laundering authority of the United States.  He also was Counselor (for cybersecurity & emerging technology) to the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury.  Previously, Michael was the in-house counsel at blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis.  He was Deputy Chief at the Department of Justice’s Money Laundering Section and served a tour at the White House National Security Council.  Currently, he has been focused on advances in private computation and zero-knowledge verification for security at scale in the digital assets space.

“The rapid rate of innovation within digital assets such as crypto-assets, stablecoins, central bank digital currencies and tokenization as well as Web 3.0 and metaverse requires continuous augmentation of our knowledge,” said Ugur Koyluoglu, Global Head of Digital Assets.  “By working with Senior Advisors like Michael, we are not only ensuring our clients get the most informed, cutting-edge digital assets and financial crime expertise, we are also extending the boundaries of what constitutes current thinking on these important topics to define a better future.”

“It will be critical to collaborate with leading authorities on financial crime like Michael given the channels, networks and applications used in financial crime are becoming more sophisticated and expanding the perimeter of regulatory enforcement and compliance,” said Daniel Tannebaum, Partner and Americas Anti-Financial Crime Head at Oliver Wyman.  “Financial crime compliance can feel like a moving target, so by leveraging Michael’s legal, enforcement, and intelligence insight, we can enhance our ability to look at a vast array of evolving issues from several dimensions to serve our clients distinctly.”
