Sustainable Innovation Forum 2020

Maintaining momentum to COP26 for the net-zero transition

Date: November 16 - 20, 2020

Overview

Oliver Wyman was pleased to be a strategic partner at the 2020 Sustainable Innovation Forum, held alongside London Climate Action Week.

To reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, the world must halve its emissions in the next ten years. This requires a complete transition from today’s operations. With calls-to-action from leaders such as Ban Ki-moon and HRH Prince of Wales, the event aimed to inspire innovation and build momentum toward COP26, which was postponed in 2020 due to Covid-19.

Two leaders of our Climate & Sustainability work joined influential thought leaders to collaborate on a vision for the path forward to a net-zero future. Their sessions are available to watch on demand below.

Call to Action Summaries

Each day at the Sustainable Innovation Forum was kicked off with an inspirational call to action by a global climate leader. An Oliver Wyman scribe from the Organizational Effectiveness practice summarized these statements in the sketches seen below.

Are We Taking Climate Risk Seriously?

John Colas, co-lead of Oliver Wyman's Climate and Sustainability platform, joined Eric Usher, Head of the United Nations Environment Program Finance Initiative, to discuss how the financial services industry has a crucial role to play in combating climate change.

John and Eric led the collaboration between UNEP FI, Oliver Wyman, and a consortium of 16 global banks to develop Transition Check, a web tool that takes a scenario-based approach for assessing transition risk and the potential impact of climate change on corporate lending portfolios.

Supporting the Future of Transportation

Partner Francois Austin, who leads the Oliver Wyman Forum's Mobility initiative, joined leaders from Sustainable Mobility For All and World Bank to discuss how our relationship with conventional transport is changing in the wake of the pandemic, and how we'll move over the next decade.

The Oliver Wyman Forum’s 2020 Urban Mobility Readiness Index assures us that every city and business will be impacted by climate change as well as the pandemic. The question is: “Are they ready for it?”
