Sean Cory On Pressure And Opportunity Reshaping Global Deals

Private equity fundraising in India and Japan is outpacing other Asian markets, despite a backlog of exit candidates globally. India’s large and fast growing PE market is supported by robust GDP growth, a youthful population and rapid digital adoption.
On a regional scale, there are promising opportunities to extend capital into tech and artificial intelligence, according to Sean Cory, head of private capital and M&A for Asia Pacific. However, deals related to manufacturing have been stalled due to trade conflicts. Sean weighed in with perspectives on the current dynamics affecting global dealmaking.
“Everybody is still holding onto their assets,” said Sean. “We see a lot more going on into processes, but the bid-ask spread is still too great, so we don’t see a lot of things actually going to completion.”
