Imke Wouters On Chinese Consumer Behavior

A new survey from Oliver Wyman revealed that Chinese consumers plan to cut down on retail spending during overseas travel.  Imke Wouters, partner in Oliver Wyman's Retail and Consumer Goods practice, discussed the survey findings with Women's Wear Daily, sharing that China's affluent households are especially feeling insecure in their financial futures. 

"While accommodation and transportation may experience an earlier recovery, expenditures related to shopping and dining are likely to lag behind. This is attributed to a shift in travel modes toward lower-cost options such as city walks and shifts from high-end dining to local cuisine/snacking experience," said Imke.
