Leandro Vilain Joins Oliver Wyman As A Partner In The Financial Services Practice In Brazil

New York and São Paulo, May 11, 2023 – Global management consultancy, Oliver Wyman, today announced that Leandro Vilain has joined as a Partner in its Financial Services practice.  He will be based in the São Paulo office.

Previously, Leandro had a 30+ year career in the banking industry in various executive roles based in Brazil and Latin America.  He started his career in investment banking, and after extensive experience in both business and treasury, he moved to the Consumer Finance division at HSBC based in Rio de Janeiro.  Leandro led key M&A projects, consolidating the bank’s presence across the region.  In 2008, he moved to Mexico City to become Head of Consumer Credit Assets and Customer Propositions for HSBC Retail Banking for Latin America where he was responsible for $20 billion in assets for clients across 12 countries.

In 2013, Leandro joined Febraban, the Federation of Brazilian Banks, which represents the interests of the largest 130 banks, accounting for 98% of the Brazilian banking industry.  There, Leandro led discussions with regulators and the Brazilian government.  As Director of Innovation, Products, and Services, he deployed critical initiatives such as Instant Payments, Open Banking, Cyber Security Banking Lab, the first Brazilian Digital Currency (CBDC) and several product discussions with local regulators and authorities.  Leandro’s experience also includes 3 years in Institutional Relations, engaging in discussions with the Brazilian Congress and Senate.

Leandro is an Industrial Engineer and holds an MBA in Finance and Executive MBA in Management.  He is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and English.
