The West Australian: Rob Bailey And Oliver Kerr On The Efforts To Halt Biodiversity Loss Moving Faster Than Climate Change Agenda

Companies have been warned it is time to step up efforts to focus on how business activities impact nature, with experts warning its the new climate battlefield key stakeholders want visibility on.

Rob Bailey, insurance and asset management, climate and sustainability partner at Oliver Wyman, said there was already a strong momentum to tackle nature loss around the world, particularly after the Kunming-Montreal global biodiversity framework was approved in December.

Oliver Kerr, energy and natural resources practice partner at Oliver Wyman, said many Australian companies faced nature-related risks and opportunities.

Mr Kerr said while the fragility of the local water supply was a “life or death” business risk for mining companies, there were also opportunities to get a premium for products where firms could show it was sustainable.
