Businesses and governments depend on undersea cables carrying digital information, a reliance that has grown with the explosion in global data flows. Given heightened geopolitical risks, companies that rely on these networks, need to better understand the system’s resilience to attack.

Speaking to the Financial Times, Crispin Ellison, Oliver Wyman Partner, highlights: “This has always been on companies’ risk registers but no one did any work on it because it felt too remote. Many large companies don’t know in detail which cables they use, for what services and especially those their outside contractors rely on."
