Despite market disruptions and uncertainties, total gross trading margins in commodities are reaching record levels - to almost $60 billion in 2020, and slightly above that in 2021, based on Oliver Wyman benchmarking.

Even more volatility is ahead, driven by uncertainties around the energy transition. As mitigators of risk, commodity traders must consider the short-term impact and long-term opportunities associated with the road to net zero.
