Süddeutsche Zeitung And Lebensmittel Zeitung Report On Recent Oliver Wyman Study On A Cost Increase In Food Retail Due To Covid-19

Stricter hygiene requirements, higher personnel expenses, growth in online shopping and structural shifts in the purchase of certain goods: A recent Oliver Wyman analysis shows that several key factors could lead to a possible cost increase of up to 6 percent for food retailers. However, consumers will not have to compensate these additional costs, as an increase of 20 percent for fresh produce for example would be necessary but not feasible, according to Retail and Consumer Goods expert and Partner Rainer Münch. Rather, retailers should focus on comprehensive cost reduction programs to avoid price increases for consumers.
