Thanks to algorithms that use customers’ purchase history and browsing data, E-commerce in China is making shopping an increasingly personalized experience, giving targeted product recommendations to customers.

Pedro Yip, partner at Oliver Wyman points out that most retail brands are still lacking the technological capability to move towards personalization through data. Then he adds, “Algorithms are still advancing towards the point where large data sets, for example from social media, can be mined quickly enough without human manpower.”
