Diversity Redefined To Include Thinking Style And Personality In Progressive New Inclusion And Diversity Programme

LONDON, 13 November 2017 – A progressive new inclusion and diversity (I&D) programme that broadens the scope of traditional corporate thinking- to include thinking style and personality type as well as gender, ethnicity and sexuality – is being launched tomorrow.

Mission INCLUDE, founded by specialist diversity and development experts Moving Ahead and global management consulting firm Oliver Wyman, brings CEOs and senior executives together to take action and create truly inclusive behaviours and cultures – by focusing on the individual talent not the ‘label’ they sit under.

Mission INCLUDE embraces and encourages diverse thinking, creating an open, experiential learning journey for all participants through cross-company, cross-industry and cross-diversity strand learning:

  • For individuals from non-dominant groups through 1:1 cross-company mentoring
  • For non-dominant groups using storytelling techniques in cross-company reverse mentoring circles, to openly explore and learn about inclusion and diversity challenges
  • For organisations represented by network leads, L&D leads and Executive sponsors in cross-company organisational learning circles, to explore and consider best practice and how to accelerate change at an organisational level

Ten founding firms will collaborate cross-organisation and cross-industry. Those already signed up pre–launch, include AIG, BNY Mellon, London Stock Exchange Group, Reed Smith and Santander.

Rupal Kantaria, Strategic Adviser at Oliver Wyman and Mission INCLUDE campaign leader, said: “In today’s increasingly competitive world, we cannot and should not afford to ignore the business benefits that come with allowing and encouraging all behaviours to shine – whether introvert and extrovert, creative and analytical, team player or individual. The best, most innovative solutions are born out of varying, sometimes competing perspectives. We are not yet creating the results we need and that is because we are simply not being diverse enough or pushing ourselves to move beyond the academic debate – to take practical action. Mission INCLUDE will change this.”

At the launch event on 14 November at Google UK HQ, Rupal Kantaria will be joined by Liz Dimmock, CEO and founder, Moving Ahead; Jeff Conway, CEO of EMEA, State Street; Michiel de Jong, President and CEO, Mizuho International and Ronan Harris, Managing Director, Google UK for a candid panel discussion.

Liz Dimmock, CEO and Founder of Moving Ahead said: “Without a truly inclusive culture and leadership, diversity cannot thrive. Taking traditional gender-based mentoring and making it work across the spectrum of diversity is the next step towards creating truly inclusive cultures. Our recent research study proves that good quality mentoring shines a light on privilege, increases retention and creates empathetic leaders and developing two-way learning for the mentor as well as the mentee. This is an exciting new approach which will lead to increased innovation and ultimately better business performance.”
