Maria is a partner in our Government and Public Institutions and Finance and Risk practices, based in London. She works with central banks, supervisory authorities, ministries of finance, and international institutions on financial sector policy, supervisory transformation, crisis preparedness, and financial resilience.

She specializes in helping financial authorities navigate complex regulatory, operational, and strategic challenges where public policy and financial services meet. Her work covers crisis management and simulation exercises, recovery and resolution, anti-money laundering supervision, supervisory operating models, and institutional transformation. She has advised authorities across Europe, the Middle East, and international financial centers on building resilience, improving cross-border coordination, and modernizing supervisory capabilities.

Maria has led large multi-jurisdictional crisis simulation programs bringing together central banks, supervisors, and resolution authorities, as well as strategic transformation initiatives focused on governance, risk-based supervision, and leadership. She has also worked extensively on anti-money laundering national risk assessments, supervisory strategies, and financial intelligence transformation programs.

Alongside her client work, Maria contributes to our thought leadership on the future of supervision, financial regulation, and institutional change. She is also passionate about leadership development and the role public institutions need to play in an increasingly complex and digital world.

Before joining Oliver Wyman in 2013, Maria completed a master’s degree in applied economics at the Católica-Lisbon School of Business and Economics, where she also tutored in microeconomics.

Originally from Portugal, she returns whenever she can and enjoys discovering new cultures and food (despite not being able to cook) as well as spending time with her young children.
