With shopping moving online and store sales stagnating, many established retailers see their internet business as their primary source of growth.

But although most now have a significant online presence, profit remains elusive: e-commerce has been great for customers but has done little for retailers’ earnings. It’s clearly difficult to come up with a viable model for an online business, but, as this article explains, it’s not impossible.
