Oliver Wyman and Efma: Exploring the Map

European Credit Survey

Retail credit markets across most of Europe have been hit hard by the banking and government debt crises, some to the point of near-collapse. Retail lending has become a much tougher business. Even in the healthier European economies, demand has declined, funding has become scarce and the regulatory burden is growing.

This joint Oliver Wyman and Efma report surveys the European retail credit market, looking at key market trends and making forecasts for the near future.

Our analysis reveals three distinct groups of European retail lending markets: markets that continue to grow (either because of their relative economic health or because they are emerging markets whose credit penetration levels are moving up to European averages), stagnant markets and those on the “watch list” because they have suffered most during the crisis.
