Save the Children Indonesia is a global children’s rights NGO, which has been operating in Indonesia since 1976. It strives to inspire breakthroughs in the ways the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. They pursue this mission through initiatives for children’s survival, education, and protection — with more than 30 programs reaching over 740,000 people in more than 2,200 villages across the country.

Designing a future of impact

Save the Children Indonesia engaged Oliver Wyman to support their goals of tripling their impact for children in Indonesia by 2030. Our team worked with Save the Children Indonesia for six weeks to design a fit-for-purpose target organization to support their ambitions for tripling impact by 2030. We started by developing an understanding of Save the Children Indonesia’s current processes and pain points through interviews with key stakeholders and experts. After analyzing their key challenges, the team co-designed a target state model for 2030 with the Save the Children Indonesia team. This entailed designing the business model, revamping business processes, identifying key capabilities, and envisioning the organization design with roles and responsibilities and KPIs needed for growing impact. Finally, our team provided guidance on the pathway towards 2030 with an actionable transition plan, aligned with Save the Children Indonesia’s key priorities.

Thanks to close collaboration with the Save the Children Indonesia team, we could ensure that the project was closely aligned with the organization’s current mission of transforming to a diversified NGO to deliver tripling impacts for children. This timely transformation will provide Save the Children Indonesia with greater agency in developing research-based strategies and programs for children’s wellbeing. Our team also provided insights on how to gradually transition towards the target state, ensuring growing impacts each year.
