Brian Prentice On The Worker Shortage In The Aviation Industry

The airline industry has been struggling to acquire new talent, specifically in aviation mechanic positions. The lack of new talent can be attributed to the fact that fewer young people are looking to become trade workers, which in turn is leading to a shortage of factory workers, electricians, welders, and other skilled trade positions. 

Brian Prentice, Partner in Oliver Wyman's Transportation and Services Practice, estimates that the aviation industry will face a shortage of up to 18,000 mechanics this year.  As a solution to the looming shortage, Brian believes that a potential fix could be to supply more financial aid for young people to assist them in receiving their respective training.
