Wall Street Journal Cites Oliver Wyman Survey Of Affordable Care Act Insurers

After years of big rate increases on Affordable Care Act plans, insurers in many states are seeking smaller hikes and even some reductions, according to a Wall Street Journal article titled “Insurers Seek Smaller Rate Increases on ACA Plans."

However, some uncertainty around subsidies to low-income ACA enrollees are pushing rates up higher than they would have been.  In a survey of insurers, consulting firm Oliver Wyman, a unit of Marsh & McLennan, found that of the 14 companies that answered a question about the end of the coverage mandate enforcement, 79% said it would impact rate proposals, with an average of 5% added into the premium.
