The Tom Main Health Innovation Mentorship provides business and leadership guidance to health industry entrepreneurs who are committed to driving widescale impact. The Mentorship was created in honor of its namesake, the late Tom Main. A former Oliver Wyman colleague, Tom was a true visionary and founder of the Oliver Wyman Health Innovation Center (OWHIC). The Mentorship models Tom’s innate behavior and desire to support those who seek to transform the health industry in pursuit of better health and optimal value. Through the Mentorship, we aspire to carry forward Tom’s mission.
A Collaborative, Community-Based Approach to Impact
We kick off the annual Mentorship selection process by asking our Nominating Committee – which includes thought leaders and partners from the industry’s leading venture capital firms – to nominate a truly passionate, mission-oriented CEO of a high potential startup organization. We ask each nominee to share their story and their ambitions for impact. After extensive review, discussion, and deliberation, our internal Selection Committee determines three finalists, who move to Pitch Day. On Pitch Day, a panel of judges, comprised of both Oliver Wyman partners and key OWHIC Leaders Alliance members, declare a winner based upon presentations and Q&A from each finalist.
The Mentorship Experience
A dedicated duo of mentors (senior members of the Oliver Wyman Health and Life Sciences practice) supports the mentee with addressing business-specific challenges, as well as navigating the dynamics of effective leadership. They provide an honest, objective view of the business, hold the mentee accountable, leverage their networks if/as applicable, and provide guidance based upon their collective knowledge and experience, bringing in Oliver Wyman and Marsh McLennan colleagues as needed.
