Vikram is a Principal in Oliver Wyman’s Retail and Consumer Goods Practice in Amsterdam. He works with retailers and manufacturers of consumer goods on a variety of commercial topics, ranging from optimizing specific commercial levers, such as pricing, to broader cross-functional transformations.
What excites me about my work is, of course, the challenge of solving difficult problems, but equally, bringing people along on the journey and watching organizations change.
For as long as Vikram can remember, he has always been fascinated by how things work. As a child, he would take toys apart and try to put them back together, which was not always successful. This fascination later developed into understanding complex social and economic systems, such as the interplay of consumers, popular culture, brands, and businesses. This interest defined his first steps into his professional career, and set up a lasting interest in different problem solving approaches.
Before switching to consulting, Vikram has spent almost a decade working in advertising and marketing. After pursuing an MBA at INSEAD, France, he realized that his professional background had created a solid foundation for life as a consultant.
The impact that consultants can make constantly amazes me. Some of my most rewarding experiences were with clients who were initially skeptical of our value, but over time came to appreciate the positive change that we could bring about.
Vikram likes to stay active, both physically and intellectually. Having grown up in the mountains, he thoroughly enjoys hiking and camping – although finding mountains in the Netherlands has proven to be a challenge. He also enjoys reading, watching documentaries, and playing board games, sometimes a bit too competitively.
