Tom is a Partner in Oliver Wyman’s Financial Services Practice where he leads the firm’s European offering on non-financial risk management. Over his 18 years in risk he has served 20 of the top 25 European banks.

Non-financial risks concern every member of an organization. Having to reach thousands of people makes effective risk management an extraordinary challenge. It requires looking across industries to learn from the best and it takes deep cultural change to create lasting impact. Bringing these capabilities together and working across boundaries makes our offering unique and immensely rewarding.

Tom works with leading banks, insurers, asset managers, and market infrastructures across the full spectrum of non-financial risks spanning cyber and resilience to compliance and financial crime.

Tom is a regular speaker at conferences and training events hosted by banks, industry associations and regulators. He has worked on ‘Skilled Person’ reviews in the UK, was a lecturer for the Certified Risk Manager course and member of the operational risk working group at a European regulator.

He recently authored the operational risk ORX reference taxonomy which aims to promote a common language for non-financial risk globally.

To complement his consulting skills, Tom is currently training as an executive coach.

What gets me out of bed in the morning is the challenge to remain relevant in a fast-changing world. One day it’s the opportunity to start with a blank sheet at a start-up, the next day it’s the need to stay on top of fifty thousand people working from home. It’s only when nothing much happens that my kids have to kick me out of bed!
