In his role, Tom leverages his extensive experience in strategic leadership and operational excellence to enhance organizational performance. He has successfully overseen major mergers and acquisitions. After France Telecom bought Orange he was brought onboard as CEO, where he built on the success of the business transformation and the need for scale efficiencies. He developed a strategy to merge Orange and T-Mobile, which he led with the integration of the two businesses to form the UK’s largest operator EE (with over 27 million customers at that time), where he served as the inaugural CEO. His leadership has consistently focused on aligning technological advancements with business objectives to deliver impactful results.
Tom also founded Virgin Mobile after persuading Sir Richard Branson to back his plan for the brand, eventually leading to its flotation and subsequent sale to NTL, which formed Virgin Media.
