Steve is a vice president at Oliver Wyman, focusing on our Aerospace, Defense, and Government Practice. He has more than 15 years of consulting experience, with expertise in global markets, including aviation, defense, space, and dual-use technology.
In government service, Steve served as deputy assistant secretary of state in the US Bureau of Political-Military Affairs. In this position, he was responsible for global political-military security programs, as well as serving as the primary interface between the Departments of State and Defense. Previously, he served as chief of staff to the counselor to the secretary of state and was awarded a Department of State Superior Honor Award for his service.
While on active duty in the Marine Corps, he was the military assistant to the deputy secretary of defense and served in the Joint Chiefs of Staff J-8 Directorate, supporting force structure evaluation and development.
As a fighter pilot, he received two decorations for combat valor, holding command positions at the squadron and air group level, and amassed more than 4,200 flight hours in 12 types of tactical aircraft.

Steve is active in the startup community, serving on the board of Rainfall Health, as a board member and co-founder of China Beige Book, and as a general partner and co-founder of Specific Impulse Capital. He is also a three-time Emmy-nominated on-air contributor at ABC News, covering political-military and aviation issues.
A graduate of Northwestern University and Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, his articles and opinion pieces have been published in the New York Times and La Tribune, as well as other publications and professional journals.
