James is a partner in Oliver Wyman’s Retail and Business Banking practice and leads the EMEA Retail and SME Credit platform.
He advises clients across the full credit lifecycle, from origination and portfolio management to collections and recoveries, working across multiple asset classes. More recently, James has focused on how new data sources, digital processes, and machine learning can improve credit decision-making and strengthen customer outcomes.
Better credit decisions come from combining strong risk discipline with smarter use of data, digital tools, and analytics. The goal is to improve outcomes across the full credit lifecycle, for both institutions and their customers
He also brings deep experience in collections and recoveries, having led more than a dozen projects across Europe. His work has included conducting risk, helping clients align collection practices with relevant codes and supporting the development of conduct risk frameworks across both credit and non-credit products.
James holds an MA in mathematics from the University of Cambridge and a Part III Certificate of Advanced Study in Mathematics.
