Hugo is a senior manager in Oliver Wyman’s Property and Casualty Insurance Practice, based in Chicago.

He specializes in the integration of automation and machine learning to improve insurance processes and is highly regarded by his peers for his technical expertise and his ability to tackle complex and challenging projects.

Hugo has a holistic view of the insurance industry, gained from his previous roles at a Big Four company in New York and Canada’s largest Property and Casualty insurer. He has worked on various aspects of insurance, such as pricing, reserving, claim adjusting, and underwriting. He has delivered innovative solutions, such as an automated reserving tool using Gradient Boosting Machines and a text analysis tool using Transformers. He is currently leading the development of Oliver Wyman’s Actuarial rate plan creation tool, which uses software engineering and automation principles to speed up the development of classification plans.

Hugo holds a bachelor’s degree in actuarial mathematics from Concordia University and is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS). He is also passionate about computer science and web development. He is the team’s go-to expert on natural language processing and has delivered numerous presentations at actuarial conferences to educate his peers on the subject.

Outside of work, he enjoys traveling (so far he has visited more than 20 countries), competing in Ironman races (he has completed two), and playing chess and tennis.
