Working with both the Energy and Natural Resources and People And Organizational Performance teams, Jake helps clients pursue large-scale transformational efforts. He works with a variety of firms in the industry, including oil and gas supermajors, utilities, and adjacent services like waste.

Clients—and I—recognize that transformation is very much a multi-dimensional challenge, no matter the scale and size of the effort. Many levers are at play but none so important as engaging teams, creating widespread ownership, and ensuring sustained staying power

Going beyond improving profit and loss statements and balance sheets to having a material effect on clients’ careers has been one of the most rewarding pieces of Jake’s role. “I derive the most joy from working with those people to explore, ideate, refine, and implement. I get to work in the background to help others be successful not only in moving their business forward but in moving their own careers and ambitions forward,” he notes.

Looking toward the future, Jake is excited to help energy and natural resources clients evolve to meet carbon neutrality goals. “I am excited to not only help my clients shift business processes, org charts, and technology platforms; I am most excited to work closely with individuals who spurn change in the most sustainable way possible: led by the teams, within the business, who are passionate and equipped to see it through.”

To those just entering the consulting world, Jake's advice is to become a passionate learner. The desire to and ability to learn is a critically important one-two punch, he notes.

No matter one’s experience, becoming a great advisor requires loving learning in new situations in order to address new challenges. Desire, though, must be coupled with ability. Spending the time and energy to think about how to learn is also vitally important

Jake and his wife love card games, board games, and crossword puzzles as well as cooking together and cheering for their favorite sports teams (especially Atlanta teams and the University of Virginia).
