Nordal Cavadini is a Partner and head of the Swiss Retail and Consumer Goods practice at Oliver Wyman in Zurich. His work focuses on category management, marketing, sales, logistics, and IT - both for retailers and for manufacturers of food and near-food products.
With more than 15 years of international consulting experience, Nordal supports companies in comprehensive transformations that require in-depth knowledge of all involved areas and stages of the value chain. This well-founded basis allows him to fully grasp the opportunities opened by the ongoing changes in customer needs. Systematic analysis of existing data is often the focus of this work. With a Ph.D. in Physics from ETH Zurich, he was already interested in the possibilities of "Big Data" before the term existed. Therefore, he is excited about the current efforts of many companies to make business decisions more based on customer data.
Retail is change. In the digital age, those players who make the best possible use of the available data gain a decisive competitive advantage.
Even outside his work, Nordal is committed to digitization and intelligent use of data. Nordal is a founding member of the cross-sector initiative digitalswitzerland, which aims to strengthen and consolidate Switzerland as a leading international location for digital innovation. "Digital ecosystems will play an increasingly important role, not just for e-commerce in retail," he says. In addition, Cavadini regularly comments on retail trends and events in the press. Here, too, his language skills come in handy: in addition to English, he speaks fluent German, French and Italian – a result of his interest in other cultures and his origins in Ticino.
