As I worked in the automotive industry for 14 years I managed to get great exposure to both technical and business functions. I also managed to build a strong foundation in problem solving, which is such a useful transferable skill! There are big changes coming in the automotive industry. With these challenges come opportunities to develop and grow, but this will take a rethink of the current business model.
Alan has 14 years of product development engineering, strategy and planning experience at Ford Motor Company and 12 years of consulting experience. He is really excited about the future of the automotive industry and the changes that new people entering it will bring:
It is actually a very exciting time to work in the automotive industry! My advice to people in any industry is to question and challenge the status quo. So many things are done the same way over and over, just because that is how it has always been done. Actively look for better ways to do something – there are always ways to improve!
Alan holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and a Master of Science degree in Engineering from the University of California, San Diego.
