Conversations: Transform the Way You Practice

Oliver Wyman’s work with providers has shown us their frustration with healthcare delivery in the U.S. Our new partner and chief medical officer, Dr. Jim Bonnette, has felt this frustration first-hand. But taking on the system and seeing change has given him hope as well. Bonnette began his career like many physicians, caring for patients. After a near-death experience in the very hospital where he practiced, though (see video at right), Bonnette decided to take a more macro approach in his career: fixing not just patients, but the healthcare delivery system as a whole.

In the video below, he discusses the long, difficult road from fee-for-service to fee-for-value. The key to successful transformation for providers, he argues, is to focus on improving care delivery, rather than just the bottom line.
