National transport restructuring initiative for the South African Department of Transport
Transport policy: Oliver Wyman helped the South African Department of Transport develop a national transport restructuring initiative, called Moving South Africa, as part of the country’s goals for domestic economic growth, participation in world trade, and continued advances in social policy in the post-apartheid era. We assisted the Government in developing an integrated strategy for policy, institutional structures, and funding for freight and passenger transport across all modes, including rail, ports, shipping, air, buses, and combi-taxis. Oliver Wyman first analyzed the state of the South African transport industry, benchmarked its performance against world-class measures, and developed recommendations to improve performance. We then formulated a strategic 20-year plan outlining how the Government should direct its financial resources in order to ensure the long-term financial stability of the transport industries.
