Financial diagnosis and restructuring plan in support of the privatization of the national railway of Mexico
Restructuring and privatization: For the Government of Mexico and FNM, the national railway of Mexico, Oliver Wyman developed a financial diagnosis and restructuring plan in support of the privatization of the railroad system. We used a network model and market research to analyze the economic situation, conducted an institutional analysis of the relationship between the railway and primary stakeholders, and developed a preliminary set of restructuring options. Oliver Wyman tested those options and recommended a restructuring plan to the Government and the railway. We then worked with the government’s investment banks to implement the rail privatization. Oliver Wyman evaluated the market and growth potential for the new railroads, presented the opportunities to bidders, and helped the government set the minimum bidding price for each concession. Finally, we helped the railroad develop a transition and liquidation plan for its remaining holdings.
