Strategy & Value Creation
The expanding geographic participation of energy companies – in an environment of increasing cost and complexity brought on by aging infrastructure, revenue streams, and workforces – has reshaped the global marketplace and uncovered unique challenges, particularly the need to reassess asset portfolios and develop new business designs that can fuel future growth.
Oliver Wyman has assisted many companies in addressing business challenges in the areas of:
- Portfolio strategy and planning
- Business design development
- Interactive strategic modeling
- New business development and launch
- Regulatory strategy
Recent engagement examples
Portfolio strategy: Oliver Wyman helped a major US combination utility review portions of its portfolio of unregulated businesses to determine their targeted future role and contribution. This work supported our client's decision to exit a significant infrastructure services business line and the successful sale of a $750 million subsidiary.
Portfolio management: Oliver Wyman helped one of the largest US electric utilities develop an approach for evaluating its business portfolio, including regulated and unregulated generation, wholesale marketing, regulated delivery, and various unregulated businesses. The work identified a structure for reviewing portfolio performance and target setting, as well as valuations for selected operating units.
