Organizational Transformation

Oliver Wyman’s point of view is that organizations are dynamic transforming mechanisms, which should be closely linked to strategy from the start.

Oliver Wyman has assisted many companies to address business challenges in the areas of:

Recent engagement examples

Business and organization strategy: Oliver Wyman developed a business and organization strategy for a local distribution company. The work identified over $100 million in operational savings through work elimination and productivity improvement, and created new functions/processes to address energy supply and work management needs.

Aging workforce: Oliver Wyman assisted a nuclear operator in the development of a new aging workforce strategy to minimize the impact on business operations of a significant number of retirements in the next 5-10 years.  The strategy involved initiatives around workforce planning, recruiting, retention, career development, and knowledge management.

Distribution company transformation: Oliver Wyman assisted the electric distribution business of a large well-performing US utility to evaluate the activities performed within the company and to reduce cost without adversely affecting customer satisfaction. A joint client-OW team recommended and specified over 20 major improvement initiatives, which were presented to senior management (and are now being implemented). In addition, we worked with senior management to redesign the overall organization to improve the clarity of managers’ roles, increase accountability, and streamline spans and layers. Estimated cost reductions and savings associated with these recommendations exceeded $8 million in O&M and $9 million in capital cost efficiencies.
