Shifting culture to drive growth

The new CEO of a large health-care provider knew he had to change the culture of his organization and strengthen its leadership capability in order to drive growth.

Our role was to help ensure the organization had the right leaders to take the company into the future. We started by clarifying leadership requirements necessary to shift the culture, creating alignment among members of the senior team on the needed changes, and providing feedback and development to people in mission-critical roles. As progress toward changing the tone at the top was made, we moved to a wider group of leaders.

By the time efforts to engage all employees in the culture work began in earnest, the executive team was aligned on what should change and the roles they needed to play. Employee surveys indicate that the culture is indeed starting to shift, and the benefits are being seen in the business results: Profitability remains strong, and market share has begun to grow.
