Not for Profit Healthcare System: Integrated risk management into key decision-making processes

Oliver Wyman was engaged to work with a not for profit healthcare system serving over 1.5 million consumers. Our client wanted to adopt a risk based decision making model. Working with the Board of Trustees, CEO and CFO, we conducted a current state diagnostic of its risk management practices, an assessment of key business risks and an integration of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) methodologies into two key decision making processes. As a result of our work, the CEO and CFO of this hospital system have strongly endorsed ERM as a way to obtain a standardized understanding of the risks across a decentralized hospital system environment. Today, they are more confident about the strategic decisions they are making, and see evidence that a proactive view of risk reduces uncertainties and minimizes surprises.
