Rationalized over one thousand initiatives across all key functions of a global airline
Airline operational improvement: For a major North American airline, a joint team of airline personnel and Oliver Wyman consultants with strong expertise across all key airline functions evaluated, prioritized, and rationalized nearly a thousand projects in the organization. The joint team identified hundreds of millions of dollars in immediate savings by eliminating several hundred projects that did not contribute meaningfully to company goals, were resource-constrained, or exceeded the limits of employee groups to absorb change. The remaining “high-value” initiatives were redefined, accelerated, and monitored against corporate goals. The team also evaluated the key economic value drivers of the airline to determine where new high-value initiatives could be created. The analysis revealed that the airline would not achieve its financial or customer goals, even if executed flawlessly. Working closely with the executive committee, the joint airline-Oliver Wyman team refocused the airline on its core economic value drivers capable of meeting and exceeding goals.
