Payments Events & Leadership

Oliver Wyman is at the forefront of the payments industry with leadership roles and activity in some of the industry’s most prominent conferences, events, and organizations.

FASTER PAYMENTS

The U.S. Federal Reserve released its landmark report, Strategies for improving the US payments system, in January 2015.  This report called for efforts to implement a faster payments system in the US and the creation of a blue-ribbon industry-wide task force to explore the attributes for a new system.

Tony Hayes, partner and global lead of Oliver Wyman’s payments practice, was selected to serve on this task force.  The group’s final report was released in July 2017.

PAYTHINK 2017

PayThink (formerly the ATM, Debit and Prepaid Forum) is focused on the important interconnected markets of debit, prepaid, mobile, digital payments and ATM. Every year, innovative leaders from across the industry come together to share best practices and identify profitable growth strategies in payments.

Oliver Wyman has chaired this conference for over a decade. The 2017 conference will be held on September 18-20 in Phoenix, Arizona.  Our speakers include Inderpreet Batra on top-of-wallet strategies, Tony Hayes on payments strategy, and Cosimo Schiavone on uses of alternative data in credit underwriting.

WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM

Oliver Wyman has a standing partnership with the World Economic Forum.  At this year’s annual event in Davos, we facilitated the dialogue with leading organizations on strategic issues in healthcare and financial services.

Tasked with balancing financial stability and economic growth, one of Oliver Wyman’s primary work streams involved developing a workshop looking at transformative forces within the payments space, the associated opportunities and challenges, and the initial areas where both private and public corporations could investigate those opportunities and challenges. The research culminated in a comprehensive perspective on the “future of payments” which was shared with members of the forum.

PAYMENTS BREAKFASTS

Oliver Wyman recently hosted its 3rd annual Payments Breakfasts in London, Madrid, and Milan, focused on the most pressing topics in the European payments landscape.

This year, Oliver Wyman’s Payments Breakfasts focused on a number of different themes , including trends in instant payments, implications and value-creation opportunities arising from PSD2, digital payments, and more.

ASSOCIATION FOR FINANCIAL PROFESSIONALS

Oliver Wyman will be attending and presenting at the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) conference in San Diego in 2017. Each year, AFP hosts the largest networking conference worldwide for over 6,500 corporate finance professionals.

This year, Oliver Wyman will discuss the topic of cross-border retail payments, including the drawbacks, benefits, and complications of entering the space from a retailer perspective.

NACHA – PAYMENTS

Oliver Wyman has partnered with NACHA – the Electronic Payments Association to support its annual PAYMENTS conference.  We are pleased to engage with other industry leaders on the key issues at the forefront of payments, including ensuring the continued strength and integrity of the ACH Network and the US payments ecosystem.
