Through a combination of acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships and organic expansions, many MRO providers have designed global networks that should allow them to expand their businesses geographically and to fulfill the work across the network in a way that maximizes economic value to the enterprise. In order to build an optimal industrial and capability footprint, however, MRO providers must balance their customers’ preferences with the capacity and economics of each facility.

In this Insight, Oliver Wyman looks at the short- and intermediate-term optimization considerations that will, in the long-term, help MRO providers develop their industrial and capability footprint. After analyzing the various factors that constitute the puzzle of network optimization, this paper proposes a long-term capability development framework that can help MRO providers in reducing the inevitable friction among the network pieces.
