Basecamp 2.0

Enabling collective action to support disaster relief

Basecamp is a coalition of four local non-profits offering disaster relief services to households that were impacted by the Beirut explosion. Basecamp offers various relief services such as home rehabilitation, food & hygiene donation, medical aid, and emotional support.

This collaboration with Basecamp came at a time when Lebanon was struggling to cope with its long-standing financial and economic crisis, compounded by the COVID-19 fallout and then the disastrous Port blast in August 2020. We were privileged to support Basecamp, take its proven relief model to the next level, and scale its much-needed relief activities to fuel the Lebanese population’s admirable resilience

Scope

The coalition is a nascent organization – its structure, operations, and tools were not yet optimized, and they lacked funds to sustain and scale their operations. Oliver Wyman was engaged to revamp Basecamp’s existing delivery model by designing their target state blueprint design and delivery model, including overhauling the organization’s structure, optimizing operations, and digitalizing disaster relief tools. Oliver Wyman also helped Basecamp by building a stakeholder engagement plan, including prioritizing potential donors and partners as well as developing pitch documents.

We call Lebanon home. Working with Basecamp, a nonprofit organization in Lebanon providing urgently needed on-the-ground support and resources following the devastating blast that shook Beirut, Lebanon, was deeply personal

Impact

Oliver Wyman helped Basecamp become a sustainable “one-stop-shop” relief hub by aligning the team on a crisp vision for the future, developing a robust organization and governance structure to instill accountabilities, refining and developing key workflows to optimize operations and support the target state organization, automating a set of manual tools to further drive efficiencies across operations, and developing outreach plans to approach prospective donors, partners and volunteers.

Oliver Wyman has been a brilliant partner and we are all extremely grateful for all the instrumental support provided to our operation as we transition into Basecamp 2.0
