James Basden

Partner & Head of Utilities
James Basden is a Partner at Oliver Wyman and leads the global Utilities practice.

During his 20-year career, he has focused on enabling senior management teams to establish the right corporate structures to drive increased value as a result of mergers and acquisitions, the need for improved financial and operational performance, and in response to regulatory change.

Prior to joining Oliver Wyman, James was a founder director of Corven, the management consulting and private equity group. He led the European consulting business and was responsible for managing major consulting relationships at board level within FTSE 100-size utility clients. He was also Chief Executive of Corven Ventures, which most notably led the acquisition, turnaround and sale of Caterham Cars in 2011. Prior to Corven, James led the turnaround of Lotus Cars as interim CEO and worked in strategy consulting for CSC Index, Andersen Consulting, and Burson-Marsteller. He holds a BA Honours degree from Durham University and an MBA from London Business School. He is an associate member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments.
