Global oil company: Assisted in setting a new strategic direction for growth

We were retained by a major oil, gas, and energy player to assist them in setting a new strategic direction for growth in an industry beset with mega-mergers and volatile pricing. Given the firm’s size and complexity, we used Oliver Wyman’s Portfolio Growth methodology to identify risks and opportunities across their portfolio. We discovered that a handful of Business Designs contributed the vast majority of the firm’s profit and value. In addition, we found that huge competitive white space existed in the economic neighborhoods in which the client played. This analysis enabled senior management to set a strategic growth agenda for the organization, for the first time, using a common language of frameworks, tools, and measures.
